Holy Flames, Marathahalli : An Evening Well Spent

Holy Flames Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato
Move on from "Holy Cow" and "Holy Sh**" . Holy Flames is the new buzz in town.

We all know that Bangalore is a Cosmopolitan city and people from different parts of India and the world are coming here in large numbers. In such a situation, clearly there is a lot of demand for good food and a variety of food to choose from. There is a lot of competition between existing hotels and restaurants in the market and the fight continues.

Bangalore is slowly (and surely) warming up to the culture of relishing meat and veggies cooked and served on a Barbecue. Therefore, every time there is a new Barbecue place is town people get excited and run ahead to go try it.

Holy Flames is one such restaurant on the Premises of the Cartier Hotel in Marathahalli,Bangalore.
They have an elaborate buffet spread inclusive of a welcome drink, a cocktail/mocktail, veg starters, barbecued meat and veggies, wish grill, live chaat counter, main course and the dessert section. One can choose to have unlimited beer at an additional price, ofcourse!

I was invited by Mr.Srinidhi from Holy Flames to go there for a food tasting. I took my parents along with me as we wanted to celebrate my mother's birthday in style and it couldn't have gotten better than Holy Flames.

We were welcomed by a set of amicable staff and they took good care of us through out the evening. We were given a table at the centre of the restaurant, with the perfect view and lighting. Holy Flames is a very spacious place. They have subtle lighting and elegant decor. The ambiance is very elegant. Another plus would be a very tempting poolside view from the restaurant. They play lively music because of which it feels like Holy Flames is brimming with energy.

To start off the evening, we were given an orange coloured fruity flavoured Welcome Drink which was quite refreshing since we arrived after an hour long drive from the other side of town.

The barbecue was placed right at the center of the table and the respective items were placed on them at regular intervals of time all ready to be charred and eaten.

On the Barbecue we had a variety of items lined up.

Of the veg starters we had only the Tulsi Paneer Tikka. The chunks of paneer were pretty big in size , fresh and coated well with the tulsi based masala. It tasted very good when barbecued well with the oils.

The Chicken Tangdi was a delight. The chicken meat was well cooked and so soft that that leg piece was literally slipping off our hands. The Chef was very friendly and personally came to our table and enquired with us about the taste of the dish. He also made a fresh round of Tangdis and got it served at our table.

The Multani Fish and the Prawns were a delectable seafood items on the barbecue. They were coated well with spices and was a pleasure to eat.

The Green Chicken item on the grill wasn't upto the mark (About which I informed the chef as well). Though coated adequately with the masala, the chicken was kind of hard and chewy and had a red colour to it. The chef said he would fix this!

Apart from the welcome drink we were offered a complemetary Mocktail/Cocktail. My parents took the fruit punch ; it was a delightful drink, with a strong taste of mixed fruit and thick shake like texture.
I ordered a cocktail that was more on the lines of a Mojito. Refreshing nevertheless.

Amongst the non barbecue items we were also served Hot Garlic Chicken (soft pieces of chicken in spicy garlic sauce) , Veg Tikki (miniature versions of veg cutlet),Veg Pyramid ( veg fried momos) , Well spiced mutton balls and Babycorn with corn and peas. All starters tasted really amazing with the fresh Mayo dip.

From the live counter my mom chose to have Pani Puri and Papdi Chaat. She said the chats were made to her liking and very "chatpata". For a chaat lover having a Live Counter is quite a boon.

The concept of Wish Grill is silently making it's way to all buffet restaurants. It is a very innovative idea where one gets to choose from an exciting variety of meat on display, add your own sides and toppings and the Chef at work makes it just how you like it! At Holy Flames they had rabbit meat , emu meat , squid and crab at the Wish Grill.

We chose to have Crab. The crabs were fresh and meaty. It was mixed well with spicy red sauce, onions, spring onion shoot and capsicum.

We were quite stuffed after binging on a host of starters. We took a long 15 minute break and then proceeded to the main course. The main course comprised of a myriad of veg and non veg salads , Biryani , chicken, mutton and fish gravy (kerala style) , rice (steamed rice and curd rice) , pasta, dal tadka, bhindi fry etc! Too be honest since I was super full I conveniently gave all the Veg items a miss and proceeded to the non-veg.

Biryani

Biryani and Rosemary Chicken

All the main course items were impressive. I couldn't find anything wrong with what I chose to eat. The Biryani was my favourite as the rice was well cooked , had the aroma of spices and was non-sticky.
My parents too enjoyed the Kerala Fish Curry , Pepper Mutton, Roti and Curd Rice.

After a second round of stuffing, we had to wait another ten minutes to head to the dessert section.
I would rate the dessert variety 3/5. Most of the desserts were Indian and therefore did not have that much variety.

They had a full fledged  ice-cream counter with different flavours .They mixed the ice-cream with nuts and sauce on a slab, (Similar to Cold Stone) which resulted in the texture of the ice-cream becoming super smooth and it literally melted in our mouths.

My favourite was the Hot Gulab Jamun. They had the perfect round shape and were super soft. It was made from Kova and tasted heavenly.

When I informed Mr.Srinidhi that it was my mother's birthday he suggested that they would give us a cake on behalf of Holy Flames. Just when we were about to leave the Chef came to us and informed us that he had made that cake and that we were not to leave the premises before he served us with that! (In a very concerned and sweet way of course).

Once the cake was brought to the table, my mother was pleasantly surprised! (That was the intention!!). Mr Srinidhi and the staff put their hands together and sang a cute little Happy Birthday song. My mother was over the moon indeed after this sweet gesture!

Just a piece of advice - The staff is friendly, yes and always looking out for what you want which is good. But I suggest they need not stand right next to the table ALL THE TIME because it is sort of weird when we know someone is watching over our table at all times. Even wrt clearing the table, they need not clear the items on the table after each and every item. It seemed like a hindrance to the otherwise enjoyable experience.

So our Saturday Night dinner officially ended with the cake cutting.

Surprisingly, Mr.Srinidhi, the owner of Holy Flames is also a Mangalorean and that common connection got my parents and him talking. He was very friendly and ensured that we had a good time and indeed, we did.

A BIG THANK YOU TO Mr.Srinidhi and THE STAFF of Holy Flames for their hospitality.

The best part about Holy Flames is the value for money. You get such a wide variety of food to choose from for a very reasonable rate which is what everyone is always looking for! They also have the system of giving you an ipad to punch in your feed back.

I would definitely recommend this place as a MUST VISIT for a very comfortable and enjoyable dining experience.

Looking forward to coming there again!

ALL THE BEST

Travel Post #5 : 10 BALINESE DELIGHTS TO STIMULATE YOUR TASTE BUDS

Bali is an Indonesian island known for its pristine beaches , beautiful temples and street food. There are a host of Indonesian delicacies that one would come across while walking along any road in this beautiful island. The food they serve in these small eateries ( “Warungs”) looks tempting and is too difficult to resist. Since the Indonesian Rupaiah runs in lakhs don’t be surprised if you are asked to pay up two lakh rupees for a simple dish. On my recent trip to Bali I ended up gorging on authentic Balinese/Indonesian cuisine ; right from street vendors to fancy hotels. The best part is they customize their non-veg dishes to suit the vegetarian palate too. Here are a few items that I devoured on the trip and absolutely loved. 1) Bakso This is a traditional Indonesian delicacy and one of the most popular ones. You will find plenty of street vendors selling Bakso along the streets of Bali. It is an eclectic mix of  tangy, spicy soup, meat balls, wontons, tofu and noodles. The

Soya Chunks Broccoli Curry | Soya Chunks Curry Recipe | Indian Recipe

Soya Chunks  Broccoli Curry  | Soya Chunks Curry Recipe | Indian Recipe I attribute my varied palate to my Appa and Amma and no one else. Although South-Indian, growing up I was exposed to so many cuisines and I am not talking about, "just in restaurants". I am talking about "in Amma's kitchen". She wasn't just the Idli-Dosa kinda mom. She always ensured that she cooked up a different storm in the kitchen everyday and for that, I cannot be more thankful. Way before this whole "vegan" thing came into existence, she introduced me to Soya Chunks. We did eat non-veg at home but not everyday. That's when the humble Soya Chunks/ Soya Nuggets come to the rescue. The texture and taste (according to me) are nothing when compared to chicken but there is something about these nuggets that strike a chord with my palate.  Soya chunks especially when cooked in a curry form absorb water and spices. You take one bite and you realize ho
