The Millennials

It is said that we are a lucky generation
Privileged to be born in this booming era of innovation and technology
Of constant change
Of travel and not being rooted at one place!
Of money and wealth
Of virtual relationships
and of selfies and social media!!

We, the Millennials!
Fall asleep when we are suppose to be wide awake
Forget to appreciate the beauty of sunrises, sunsets and raindrops
Eat breakfast when we are suppose to have lunch
Work when we are supposed to be relaxing
Take pictures when we are suppose to be enjoying food and places
Run away from things and people when we are suppose to be walking towards and embracing them
And so much more...

The fear of missing out looms over our heads all the time. FOMO they call it.
From the moment we wake up, till the time the moon shows up
For us, the grass is always greener on the other side,
We refuse to accept and take things coming in our stride.

We cannot sit at our desks for hours together
Yet we fidget and stare at our devices forever
Our eyes and fingers hurt from all the texts and swipes.
But we go on.
Devices are our mates and confidante!

We, the Millennials!
We just want to kiss, hug and cuddle,
For some even that seems like a struggle.
Sex has become casual and easy,
The beginning and ending of relationships has become so effortlessly breezy.

Today, everything happens with the click of a button.
We want to be an open book yet we have so much to hide.
We message because we do not have an ego.
We do not message because we have an ego.
Hey, I'm getting married- Send
Hey, I'm having a baby-Send
Hey, I quit my job- Send
Hey, let's catch up for lunch-Send
Hey, will you be my girlfriend?- Send
Hey, I'm sorry, we have to break up!- Send
We are never talking again-Send

We love our lit up screens and keypads to the core,
We don't want to see faces, expressions and smiles anymore.
Emoticons have replaced the soothing human touch.
What can we do about it?
Well, nothing much!

We walk down the subway, looking into our phones. We are alone. Lonely.
We walk down the subway holding hands and smiling at that face next to us, yet we are lonely.
We are single, we are lonely.
We are married, we are lonely.
We are scared to commit, we are lonely.
We hurt and still claim that we are scared to hurt.
We are "never ready" for things when they come our way.
We either take a leap of faith or we don't.
The cure to our loneliness is a bunch of apps, flirty chats, a few cups of coffee, innumerable pints of beer or some grass rolled in paper!
Either in the hustle-bustle of broad daylight or in the silence of the night!

We are with a group of friends, but still alone!
We are eating lunch with our colleagues, but still alone!
We want to be surrounded by people but yet find ourselves forlorn!
We are made up of a million erratic atoms, scanning eyeballs, wandering minds, confused emotions and ranting mouths!
Something that looks permanent today gets shaken by an unprecedented earthquake tomorrow.

We study to work.
We work to earn.
Some crave to work in concrete jungles, some up in the mountains, some by the beach and some? Not work at all!
We earn to travel.
We travel to explore and make friends.
We make friends and try to keep in touch.
Our passion takes us beyond a myriad of boundaries
We crave. We crave for the perfect job, money, a car, travel, a loving companion, the perfect social cirle and a champion life.

We fail at studies.
We fail at work.
We fail at living up-to expectations.
We fail at relationships.
We fail at life.
We make mistakes only to learn from them, more often than not.
But we rise. We rise only to become stronger and smarter.

Sometimes we forget ourselves because of ourselves.
Sometimes we forget ourselves because of others.
Sometimes we forget others because of ourselves.

Our minds are so confused. Our minds are adamantly made up.
We are good, we are bad, we are ugly.
We are happy, we are sad.
We are calm and we get mad.
We remember. We forget.
We like. We love. We cheat. We hate.
We flirt. We date.
We marry. We separate.
We play trial and error with our fate.
We travel and eat.
Take pictures, post them, repeat.
We crave. For likes, comments and shares.
We wait for those few occasional stares.
We stalk. We mock.
We want to be body positive yet we body shame.
We are all so near, yet so very far.
We are religious. We are rebels.
We want to obey our parents and yet disobey them.
We want to be busy. We don't want to be busy.
We have tremendous fun yet we sulk.
We applaud and appreciate yet there is so much jealousy we accumulate.
We are strong yet we are weak.
We have broad minds and yet we succumb to narrow mindsets.
We have our freedom and still we feel trapped.
We don't want to be lonely. We don't want to be together.
We want to plan a secure future but at every step it seems like quite a torture.
We don't understand ourselves. You don't understand us.

We, my friends, are THE MILLENNIALS!

It's strange to be millennials.
Neither we live for our family nor ourselves.
So much to do yet nowhere to start.

Sometimes ego, but sometimes "complexity".

Nice enlightenment, but poured everything at once.
Lost rhyme? :)

Travel Post #5 : 10 BALINESE DELIGHTS TO STIMULATE YOUR TASTE BUDS

Bali is an Indonesian island known for its pristine beaches , beautiful temples and street food. There are a host of Indonesian delicacies that one would come across while walking along any road in this beautiful island. The food they serve in these small eateries ( “Warungs”) looks tempting and is too difficult to resist. Since the Indonesian Rupaiah runs in lakhs don’t be surprised if you are asked to pay up two lakh rupees for a simple dish. On my recent trip to Bali I ended up gorging on authentic Balinese/Indonesian cuisine ; right from street vendors to fancy hotels. The best part is they customize their non-veg dishes to suit the vegetarian palate too. Here are a few items that I devoured on the trip and absolutely loved. 1) Bakso This is a traditional Indonesian delicacy and one of the most popular ones. You will find plenty of street vendors selling Bakso along the streets of Bali. It is an eclectic mix of  tangy, spicy soup, meat balls, wontons, tofu and noodles. The

Soya Chunks Broccoli Curry | Soya Chunks Curry Recipe | Indian Recipe

Soya Chunks  Broccoli Curry  | Soya Chunks Curry Recipe | Indian Recipe I attribute my varied palate to my Appa and Amma and no one else. Although South-Indian, growing up I was exposed to so many cuisines and I am not talking about, "just in restaurants". I am talking about "in Amma's kitchen". She wasn't just the Idli-Dosa kinda mom. She always ensured that she cooked up a different storm in the kitchen everyday and for that, I cannot be more thankful. Way before this whole "vegan" thing came into existence, she introduced me to Soya Chunks. We did eat non-veg at home but not everyday. That's when the humble Soya Chunks/ Soya Nuggets come to the rescue. The texture and taste (according to me) are nothing when compared to chicken but there is something about these nuggets that strike a chord with my palate.  Soya chunks especially when cooked in a curry form absorb water and spices. You take one bite and you realize ho
